The WDCAG Conference showcases some of the most innovative solutions to society’s greatest problems. Yet like any large event, there is a considerable amount of emissions and waste generated. To honour the theme of “Language in Action”, a committee of dedicated undergraduate students from UVIC’s Geography course union is working to make sustainability and waste reduction a priority. We encourage all attendees to consider their impacts and to take advantage of the following services provided:
Bike Rentals:
Provided by UVIC’s Spokes, will be available. Attendees will be provided a voucher for a free rental. This is a fantastic way to enjoy Victoria’s spring weather! FInd us set up outside the Engineering / Computer Science Building. Come by before the keynote.
Bus Tickets:
Provided by BC Transit, will be available (while supplies last). Each ticket is valid on any public bus. Downtown Victoria is a quick 20 minute bus ride away from campus and there are several bus routes to choose from.
Giveaway Bags:
All items in the giveaway bags, including the bag itself, are ethically sourced from a local provider and are made of low impact materials. A map, designed by our undergraduate geography students, will showcase water fountains and waste disposal stations. It will also showcase excellent walking tours for those wishing to explore campus!
Finally, we encourage all attendees to bring their own water bottles and reusable mugs with them on their travels. Say no to plastic and yes to reusables! Our catering services will provide reusable cutlery and china for meals. As well, each gift bag will have a WDCAG branded bamboo mug!
